Amy Elkins: Photographs of Contemporary Masculinity

Amy Elkins’ first survey of photographs and first solo exhibition in the Western States, explores contemporary masculinity with photographs of male athleticism, of men serving life and death row sentences, and of cisgender and transgender masculine identifying individuals.

In this month-long, live exhibition, the creative process is exposed as Elizabeth Turk, a 2010 MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship awardee, stations her working studio at the Doyle, exploring the extinction of birds in the Americas. You are invited to interact with the artist as she reveals the conceptual choices for this work during its progression on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 12-4, each week during the exhibition.

Four centuries after Galileo Galilei pointed a telescope skyward, through which he saw craters on the moon and made out the Milky Way’s band of light, this multi-media exhibition of nationally recognized artists explores observations of the night sky, reflecting on questions of space, time, and the human condition within and beyond the observable universe. It is presented concurrently with the opening of OCC’s new planetarium.
