Orange Coast College’s Counseling Latinos for Engagement and Equity project has invited Cornell University professor Helena Maria Viramontes to be the keynote speaker at its virtual Summit 12.0 on Wednesday, May 4 at 1 p.m.

Viramontes is a Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in English at Cornell and a recipient of the John Dos Passos Award for Literature and United States Artist Fellowship. Her writings have provided her the distinction of being a significant literary figure in the formation of the Chicana/o literature canon. “Professor Helena Maria Viramontes is a cultural icon and an important contributor to the formation of the Chicana/o literary canon,” says CLEEO founder and OCC counselor Eric Cuellar.

“She possesses the gift of the word and is a Chicana writer with the talent to communicate intergenerational wisdom.”
