Knowmia is a part of TechSmith, the makers of Camtasia and SnagIt software.   Knowmia is a powerful video capturing, editing, storage, and hosting solution and provided different services to the Coast District.   Unfortunately, TechSmith is pulling Knowmia out of the education arena.  As a result, Coast District will close Knowmia's connections in August 2022.  We are excited to share that we will change to Panopto, which provides an array of services and connections.

In the meantime, you can continue to use Knowmia until Summer 2022.

Knowmia in Higher Education

Please know that any videos you made in Knowmia will be transferred to Panopto.  

Panopto is our new video design, editing and hosting service.  It is scheduled to make its debut in late Fall 2021 / Spring 2022.  Instructional Innovation Center will offer training.  Come back and keep checking.

Respondus consists of multiple applications:

• Respondus - a powerful Windows application allowing instructors to design quizzes offline or import quizzes from Word or Excel to Canvas Quiz.
• Respondus Lockdown Browser - a powerful tool to lockdown test-takers' computer systems from browsing outside of Canvas and the quiz.  This only works on Windows, Mac, iPad, and Chromebook.  Faculty will need to complete the setup within Canvas.
• Respondus Proctor (formerly Monitor) - allows faculty to use webcams to record the test taker and the area of the test. Proctoring also allows the faculty to take a snapshot of the school ID and a profile picture of the student before the exam.  This only works on Windows, Mac, iPad, and Chromebook.  Faculty will need to complete the setup within Canvas.

Tips from IIC and the Library Media Crew:

1. It is always recommended you take exams on a computer and not on mobile devices (smartphones)
2. For best performance, use Chrome or Firefox.  DO NOT use Safari or Edge/Internet Explorer
3. Be sure to have the latest version of the browsers
4. Be sure to have your operating systems up to date
5. Be sure that pop-up blockers are disabled
6. For best performance, before taking your exams, clear your browser cache

Troubleshooting Respondus Lockdown Browser and Proctor/Monitor

If you are experiencing issues with Respondus Lockdown Browser and Proctor, please follow the suggested steps from Respondus. 

Coast Community College District uses Turnitin within the Canvas environment.  We do not have accounts with Turnitin directly.
